The kimono (着物, きもの) is a traditional Japanese garment. The word “kimono”, means a “thing to wear”.
We saw kimonos all over the runways of NYFW SS17. Then we saw them popping up on the streets worn by some of our fave “it girls”. Now we all know that once a trend reaches the fashionable streets of New York, Paris and Milan, that’s when it truly becomes a ”hot” trend.
Now I know that I’m a tad bit late but firstly, it’s only summer in Oz now, secondly, we’re still in 2017, thirdly, I only received this beautiful, authentic Japanese kimono as a gift from a special lady a few days ago. Arigatō gozaimashita 🙂 Thank you hun… and lastly, I wear what tickles my fancy, regardless of the current trend 😉
Styling a Kimono…
As much as the pj trend is stylish – for now at least – we want to avoid looking like we’re strutting the streets in a nightgown. Try not to overthink the kimono, you might complicate the look and end up looking like a hot mess. Keep it simple. Clean lines and no layers. A simple tee paired with a pair of skinnies and flats – to me – is the perfect canvas. It should look like an after thought. Like you grabbed your kimono on your way out and effortlessly threw it over.
No matter your body shape, this flattering Japanese gem is definitely worth incorporating into your wardrobe.

From the hubby and I, we wish all those celebrating a blessed festive season. Stay safe guys
